South Africa's tennis talent, Jessica (Jess) Hess, is making waves in the USA! The talented Freshman from Southern University was recently awarded the Freshman of the Year title in the competitive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). But her brilliance extends far beyond the baseline. Off the court, Jess has achieved an impressive academic record, exemplifying the well-rounded student-athlete she is.
We caught up with her and she had this to say about the award: “Winning the Freshman Player of the Year award and being chosen as part of the ALL SWAC 2nd Team reassured me that I made the right choice to come to the USA, and more specifically Southern University to pursue my college tennis career. It also boosted my confidence in my tennis abilities for what is to come. Although this is only a small accomplishment so far, it makes all my injury struggles worthwhile. I am excited for the following seasons and can't wait to get better and stronger on court”.
